Press for AEB
Wilmington, MA-based Advanced Electron Beams is developing energy-efficient technology in a sector that typically doesn’t attract the same attention as hybrid cars or green buildings: industrial manufacturing.
The Department of Energy recently announced the winners of the Industrial Energy Efficiency Grand Challenge. Advanced Electron Beams (AEB) was among 48 projects awarded funding to "develop transformational manufacturing processes and technologies."
Peering inside one of his company’s products, Mitch Tyson sees more than just a mesmerizing blue cloud of electrons. He also sees the type of innovation needed to cut energy use by energy-hungry industrial companies. Advanced Electron Beams Inc., based in Wilmington, is one of several local companies helping manufacturers and other industrial customers to substantially reduce their energy needs. The firm’s electron emitter is currently being used to sterilize food and beverage packaging and has a wide range of other potential applications that could save energy for industry, said Tyson, the company’s CEO.
At Advanced Electron Beams Inc. in Wilmington, CEO Mitch Tyson said the first phase of his company’s electron emitter rollout is kicking into high gear.
“This is the year that really we should be taking off,” said Tyson, who expects revenue to more than double this year compared to 2009, while the company’s 50-person staff could double within 12 to 18 months.
