MocoSpace Tops 3 Million Users

Mobile Community's Growth Shows Youth's Preference for Connecting by Mobile Phone

Boston, MA – June 26, 2008

Boston, MA - June 26, 2008 - MocoSpace (mocospace.com), the largest social network designed specifically for mobile phones this month passed the 3 million mark in registered users. The milestone follows a May report by browser company Opera ranking MocoSpace as the third most trafficked mobile site in the U.S. after MySpace and Google.

The rapid growth of MocoSpace is being fueled by word of mouth mostly from younger consumers that prefer the ubiquity of mobile phones and the easy meet-and-greet social experience the site offers. Members enjoy creating and browsing profiles as well as messaging, uploading and sharing photos, and more. MocoSpace's success demonstrates the value that users place on real-time mobile communication and photo sharing.

MocoSpace members are very engaged and active. The average member comes to the site more than once a day. The site now generates over 1.5 billion pageviews per month.

"What we're witnessing here is a sea change in social networking behavior. It's moving from the web to mobile at breakneck speed, simply because people carry their phones 24x7. They don't want to be sitting at a PC to be able to connect with their friends," said Justin Siegel, co-founder and CEO of MocoSpace. "They're coming to MocoSpace because it was built from the ground up for easy mobile use."

Analysts indicate the mobile social networking trend will not only continue but accelerate. In May, digital marketing analyst eMarketer issued a report projecting that over 800 million people worldwide will access social networks via their mobile phones by 2012, up from 82 million in 2007. That translates into a surge from 2.7% to 18.8% of mobile phone users.

The same eMarketer study reported that Facebook has 4 million users and MySpace has 7 million - a fraction of their overall online members. "When you compare MocoSpace's 3 million members to Facebook and MySpace's mobile numbers, our growth is even more noteworthy," Siegel said. "It's clear that many people are looking for social networks that deliver a great mobile experience, and we are delivering."
